We all know how frustrating it is to deal with bed bug infestation. If you are currently experiencing this problem, mind learning how to get rid of bed bugs for good.
Before anything else, evaluate the severity of the infestation and look for any sign of bed bugs in your house, particularly in the bedroom.
I applied these steps in this article for a do-it-yourself bed bug control. Don’t let these pests spoil you. Start eliminating them before they get the best out of you. Here are simple steps that you need to know on how to get rid of bed bugs for good.
1. Traps for Bed Bugs
One effective way of getting rid these harmful pests is through bed bug traps. You can just readily purchase it in your local store. You can place them below the legs of your bed so they cannot climb anymore.
To make it more efficient, make sure that all the beds in your home should have one of these traps underneath the legs of the bed. Remember that proper placement also matters in effectively getting rid of these bed bugs.
When they cannot climb anymore, soon they look for an alternative location to serve as their next breeding place.
2. Diatomaceous Earth (DI)
The good thing about the Diatomaceous Earth is can be used to a broad spectrum of bugs, and not only with bed bugs. They are also effective in eliminating fleas and ticks on your pets. Ants are also included in the list.
Now, going back to DI, this is made from the fossilized remains of aquatic organisms. Mind you; they are tiny. The fossil is pulverized, and the resulting powder is powerful enough to kill the bed bugs.
It works by dehydrating the bugs because Diatomaceous Earth can absorb fats and oils coming from insects. All you need to do is to apply the powder around your house, especially in infested areas.
Try leaving it around for about 24 hours, and you can already see some dead bugs. Vacuum them away and wait for another set of dead bed bugs. You can easily purchase this Diatomaceous Earth online or in greenhouse stores.
3. Getting Rid of Infested Objects
One of the most fundamental steps that you can apply is to make sure that your household is clean to prevent these bugs from finding a host. The first thing that you need to check is the bedding. You can pick off a lot of these bugs because bedding is an excellent breeding place for them.
Remove the bedding and clean it with hot water. After washing it with a good antimicrobial detergent, dry it using a hot steam dryer. Choose the maximum setting to make sure that all the bed bugs are removed.
Aside from this, check if your mattress seam has bed bugs as well. Brush them off and scrub the mattress to remove the bed bugs together with the eggs.
4. Use a Commercial Steamer
Commercial steamers are very efficient in terminating bed bugs because they can release off the needed temperature to effectively remove and kill them. If you don’t have your carpet steamer at home (which I don’t have as well), many companies rent them out.
These steamers can be used on fabrics and carpets. You can also kill the bugs that are in cracks and crevices using these great steamers.
5. Tea Tree Oil Solution
Making a tea tree oil solution is relatively easy. However, it all depends on the severity of infestation. You need to rely on the strength of the solution on the density of bed bugs that you need to eliminate.
For a standard solution, you can dilute 20 drops of essential tea tree oil in a bottle. Spray bottles are more preferred for easy dispelling. You can spray it directly on the bed bugs. If you observe that it’s not that effective, try adding more drops of tea tree oil for extra strength.
6. Using Lavender Oil Spray
Another alternative oil that you can use it lavender oil solution. This solution cannot kill the bed bugs, but it can keep them at bay. The bugs can’t stand the smell of this oil that’s why infestation is not likely to occur.
I hope, at least one of two of these methods has answered your concern on how to get rid of bed bugs for good. The main key to getting rid of these menacing bed bugs is prevention. It is always better than cure.
Prevent these bugs from entering your home because bed bug infestation is not a simple thing to handle. They can even latch on you and your family without even getting detected.
However, don’t worry if they are already present in your homes because these methods would efficiently help you in killing them and keeping them at bay.
